Horizontes is our newest production scheduled for a January 1st release. It features 20 of the worlds finest musicians and vocalists and is dedicated to the children of the world. 8 original compositions and arrangements rerpresenting a wide variety of styles and rhtyhms from the Afro-Latin diaspora. As we continue to celebrate 40 years of record production with Machete Records, Horizontes (Horizons) is our musical reaffirmation in the power of love to transform our hearts and minds. This simple yet radical notion informs our quest for peace, justice, health and joy for every family and community. With this humble musical offering, we align with the movements to transform the violence of bigotry, slavery, colonialism, berzerk capitalism and war into the as of yet unrealized unity and brotherhood of the human race.

Our newest recording project, Vieja Escuela, is an 'old school' tribute to our ancestors and mentors featuriing these four legendary guests: supreme Cuban vocalist Ernesto Oviedo (1935-2019), master Cuban rumba composer and percussionist Raul de la Caridad Gonzalez Brito 'Lali' (1949-2022), pioneering Nuyorican Latin Jazz trumpeter/percussionist and bandleader Jerry Gonzalez (1949-2018), and living legend master Cuban percussionist Orestes Vilató (b.1944). Also featured prominently are the remarkable members of the JS Sextet: Dr. John Calloway, Melecio Magdaluyo, Saul Sierra, Marco Diaz, David Flores and Charlie Gurke. Rumba callejera, danzón, bolero, son montuno, spoken word, Lukumí-funk, and funky jazz Latino are all employed here!

Saul Sierra – bass Marco Diaz – piano, trumpet John Calloway – flute, percussion Charlie Gurke – saxes David Flores – drumset John Santos – congas, percussion The new CD is inspired by, and dedicated to Puerto Rico. All proceeds from the new CD in the first quarter (through March) will go to Taller Comunidad La Goyco in San Mateo de Cangrejos, Puerto Rico. This amazing community center was co-founded by the late pioneering plenero and activist Tito Matos who is featured on the new CD. Built on the Afro-Caribbean past, forged by visionaries such as John Santos and his comrades, and steeled by its rootedness in American life, Latin jazz is a major force shaping contemporary American musical culture. Over decades of performing, arranging, producing, and teaching, Santos has helped make the San Francisco Bay area a Latin jazz stronghold.
