Oakland Symphony & Living Jazz at the historic Paramount Theatre!!! Allison Miller, Meklit Hadero and I (John Santos) have been commissioned to each compose a piece for the Oakland Symphony!! The pieces will premiere Friday, October 18th at the Paramount!! My piece is based on Puerto Rican resistance and musical history and will feature Puerto Rican cuatro specialist Pedro Pastrana and voice artist Maria Cora. To my knowledge, it will be the first time the Puerto rican cuatro will be featured in front of a symphony orchestra in the San Francisco Bay Area!!!
